Christine Carey was born an artist. From her earliest discovery of the use or crayons etc. she has been creating. She has been schooled in drawing, painting, design and numerous other forms of creative genre. Her background consists of owner and operator of galleries throughout the Southwest, to new and innovative ways to show and sell her own art. Her originals have been reproduced commercially in many forms including lithographs, limited edition plates, puzzles, greeting cards. Etc. Her original paintings have been purchased by collectors around the world.

For the last four years, she has been working exclusively with Spanish Colonial art in the form of retablos, (religious paintings on board), alter screens and tin art. In this short time, she has won numerous awards and has shown, for the last three years in the prestigious Santa Fe Spanish Market, sponsored by the Museum of Spanish Colonial Arts. Among the most recent ribbons she has been awarded are, Best of Show, First place, Peoples Choice Award, Women’s Award of Excellence, Tradición Revista Award, Guadalupe Vineyard 1st. place (this award twice) and the list goes on. For this art form, she works in the traditional method making all of her own gesso, natural pigments and homemade piñón sap varnish. Her tin work continues to attract attention with her innovative dimensional pieces and is being sought after by collectors who see her fresh approach to an old art form. The images in her retablos are said to connect the viewer with the higher source and make the saints more approachable. Christine does her own woodcarving, painting and all phases of the tin work.
